If you don’t already, “Learn to Love Networking”

If you ask most people who are actively involved in professional organizations, like IFMA, why they join, chances are that one of their top reasons is the networking opportunities.   In the Boston Chapter of IFMA we love networking!  Getting to know our fellow industry professionals, their work as well as their interests, is important to our members and our chapter leaders.

Not everyone, however, is like us.  For the quieter, more introverted people, networking can be stressful.  In a recent Harvard Business Review article, a great case was made for “learning to love networking” in attempt to help out those who aren’t as comfortable wading their way through a crowd.  The article can be found here, so we encourage you to read it, learn a few networking tips, and forward it along to that person in your office who you can’t seem to get to join you at your next corporate event!

5 Steps for Developing a Successful Energy Management Strategy

Everyone in the FM, corporate real estate and construction communities is talking about energy.  It seems like the concept of energy management (and its best practices) have been a mystery for many in the built environment for years.  In a recent article re-purposed from The <a href=”http://www.ifma.org/publications/fmj-magazine”>FMJ</a>, IFMA’s international magazine, a 5-step strategy was proposed to facility managers for dealing with energy management.

Awards of Excellence Online System is Up

The new online system for the Awards of Excellence is now open and accepting registrations at http://awards.ifmaboston.org/nominations.  There you can register yourself as a nominator and then select the Award type you would like to do for your first nomination.  As with any online system, save often.  You can save and work on your nomination up to the deadline at the end of the day on April 6th.  When you are completed with your nomination, you can press save and submit.  You can select another Award to nominate from the New Nominations tab. 2015 IFMA Boston Scholarship Application

The IFMA Boston Scholarship application is now open for applications and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled within a Facilities Management program.  All applicants must be an IFMA Boston member in good standing.  This year, the Board of Directors will award up to two $2,500 scholarships at the 12th Annual Awards of Excellence on Wednesday, May 20th at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.  The deadline for the scholarship is March 31st.  Any questions can be directed to jennessa@ifmaboston.org.
