Take Your Career To The Next Level: IFMA Certified Facilitiy Manager (CFM) Study Hall Starts 1/27/14

Article By IFMA PR/Marketing Committee Member: Chris Pestana, Fox RPM Corp.

It’s that time of year again! Have you hit the books in preparation for the CFM Certification Exam? Look no further than the IFMA CFM Study Hall for a nine-week crash course with your peers that will prepare you for confidently passing the exam and taking your facilities career to the next level.

The CFM Study Hall series will kick off on Monday, January 27th and will go through March 31st, focusing on the 9 competencies of the CFM Certification Exam. Four-time course instructor, Chris Gilman, is known for taking an approach that works as his students boast a 90% average on the exam, which ranks better than IFMA’s national average.

“I really believe in teaching not only the content, but also preparing people for how to take the exam,” Gilman said. “Most of us haven’t taken an exam of this nature since the SAT’s so I try to prepare people so that when they sit down for the exam and the clock starts, they won’t have anything to worry about.”

The CFM credential sets the industry standard for ensuring the knowledge and competence of practicing facility managers. “If you’re looking to open a lot of doors and become well rounded in this area of expertise then CFM really is for you,” said Gilman.

A New Year, A New Look

Happy New Year! As we ring in 2014, IFMA Boston is stronger than ever. Throughout 2013, our members worked together to support the community of built environment professionals through career development, advocacy and networking. For the past 30 years, IFMA has grown and evolved alongside the facility management industry and is widely recognized for its thought leadership. To highlight IFMA’s dynamic industry and organizational progress, a new logo has been conceived by the IFMA marketing team. After a year of preparation and extensive research, the symbolism and typography of the final logo design illustrates feedback provided by the IFMA community.

“Our logo is so much more than a collection of shapes and colors,” said IFMA Marketing Director, Stewart Dallas. “It’s the flagship of a brand that represents everything IFMA stands for. During the creative process, we wanted to incorporate our rich history with our shared vision for the future. In viewing this logo, one can simultaneously see within it a globe representing the international scope of IFMA’s membership and the built environment itself, for which that membership is responsible. The vibrant colors and sleek typeface are both modern and timeless. IFMA’s new logo redefines our visual legacy. It charts a bold path forward. And since our legacy is shared by everyone at IFMA, this logo truly does belong to us all.”

We’re not replacing our old logo all at once- our new logo will begin to appear in different places over time. The new logo will eventually take its place on everything from websites to letterhead and clothing. To prevent waste, IFMA is also taking steps to ensure the transition is sustainable. Whenever possible, physical products featuring the old logo will be used rather than discarded.

What do you think of the new logo?

Honoring Our Heroes: The Greater Boston Real Estate Industry Gives Back

Each of us has been impacted in one way or another by the Boston Marathon tragedies in April 2013.  On Wednesday, September 11th, a day when we commonly honor our fellow citizens hundreds of people representing every facet of the region’s real estate industry will join together to show support and gratitude to our First Responders — (not only for the work they did following the Boston Marathon bombing, but also for the role they play in keeping all citizens and their property safe every day.)

As an industry united, this is one small way to give back to the brave men and women of so many departments and agencies who are always there for us by putting themselves in harm’s way so our collective community can be safer.

On September 11, IFMA Boston and our fellow CRE organizations invite you to come together as one   to tell these real life heroes ‘Thank You.’”
