Headphones in the workplace?

Modern work spaces are being designed to espouse a sense of community and to encourage collaboration.  Some may argue however, that employees would rather just be left alone.  In fact, many employees are “tuning in” to their work by  “tuning out” their colleagues.  What kind of message does wearing headphones in the office really send?  The Harvard Business Review tackles this relevant question with Workers, Take Off Your Headphones.
